I am a professor at a primarily undergraduate institution. My spouse is a research professor and works two hours' drive away. This blog is primarily about life at a PUI, but also about our family trying to make the most of an uncomfortable lifestyle.

My salary
Got a note in the campus mail today telling me that- congratulations!- I have received at 2-ish percent cost of living increase in my salary. For kicks I used a cost of living comparison website. If I lived in New York, NY, I would be making $63, 049. In San Diego, CA, $50,159, and in Sublette, KS, $29, 483.

This may be a silly question, but does the new number mean that you'd make that amount working the same job, or that you'd NEED to make that much to continue living at your current level? I compared my current town in Arkansas to a place in California, and it was over double. It is CHEAP to live here.
ReplyDeletea.b. I'm sure its just a multiplier according to the overall cost of living in that city. It has no idea how big my house is, etc., so it's the equivalent salary in more/less expensive places. One must assume that you will have the same lifestyle/ equivalent housing/ similar expenses, I suppose.
