A random installation of things I would tell myself when I was new:
Don't agree to have an unscheduled study session with students too early before the exam. Unless it is within 1-2 days of the exam, they will not be prepared with questions, and it won't be a very productive use of your or their time.
I am a professor at a primarily undergraduate institution. My spouse is a research professor and works two hours' drive away. This blog is primarily about life at a PUI, but also about our family trying to make the most of an uncomfortable lifestyle.

Yes, I tried to have an early study session to accomodate students who might be busy during my other study session time (usually the day before the exam). It was also to reward students for studying early. But it didn't go too well.
